Chinese Sweet and Sour Sauce

If you're thinking about making your very own 'fakeaway' then you'll need a sweet and sour sauce to go with your noodles or Linda McCartney Shredded Hoisin Duck! If luck us, you like to know what's going in your food, then this recipe means you know precisely what's in there and you won't be glowing in the dark - well not from this at least!

Ingredients

- 1/3 cup of pineapple juice (you can just drain the liquid from pineapple slices if you don't have the juice!)

- 1/4 cup of brown sugar

- 1 tbsp tomato ketchup - 1 tbsp rice vinegar - 1 tbsp light soy sauce - 1/2 teaspoon cornflour mixed with a splash of water to form a paste

Method This is one of the easiest recipes we'll ever write!

  1. Combine all the ingredients except the cornflour in a pan and gently bring to the boil.

  2. Add the cornflour paste and stir. Your sweet and sour sauce will be ready in 2 minutes! You're aiming for a glossy, almost jelly-like consistency - just like you'd get at the local Chinese takeaway.
