Green Vie Vegrill Halloumi review

Unless you can't have dairy, there's one thing every vegan will tell you - we miss cheese! Pizzas aren't quite the same, although Pizza Express' Vegan range is insanely good, coconut cheese always has a funky flavour and for the most part it's just disappointing. There are a few which are better (looking at you Green Vie Mozzerella!).

With distant memories of halloumi with the unintentional, but somehow delightful, charring from bygone BBQs in mind, we decided to give this a chance!

As we got it out of the packet and sliced it up, we were pleasantly surprised. It looked and even felt a little bit like uncooked halloumi. Unfortunately that's where the similarities ended though! We really didn't appreciate the cooked taste or texture much. It tasted a little bit like camembert, but not a nice one and we would go as far as saying we found the texture and smell unpleasant. Offering the benefit of the doubt, it could have been because we cooked ours on a George Foreman and not the BBQ (contamination problems), but we probably won't be giving this another go.

It's a real shame because the Green Vie mozzarella is the best cheese we've found and a staple in our household. But, to each their own, so give this a try and let us know what you think!
